Redlands teacher arrested for bearing child with former student

There have been many cases in the news regarding sexual misconduct between a teacher and an underage student. Although some could argue that the student was old enough to consent to a relationship, the fact remains that this act is against the law, and will result in criminal charges. Even in cases where there are only a few years' difference in the age of those involved, the older person can suddenly find himself or herself slapped with an unintended sex offense charge.

A Redlands high school teacher was recently arrested on charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, two weeks after giving birth to a baby that was allegedly fathered by a former student at the school where she taught. The 28-year-old teacher was an advisor to the student, then 16 years old, who has since graduated. When his mother discovered the relationship, she notified school authorities, who then called the police and terminated her contract.

After hearing of the teacher’s arrest, another man came forward with information that he too had been involved in a sexual relationship with the woman when he was a student of hers at age 17.

It may be difficult to determine if the person involved is a sexual predator or developed inappropriate feelings for a younger person and made a mistake. But whether or not the woman committed a true crime or has a habit of falling in love with the wrong people, there is a baby who is now dependent on her. In any case, she could benefit from the counsel of a defense attorney, who could help the court take into consideration the fate of her child, as well as her own.
