A sex crime conviction is very serious, and carries with it a social stigma that can far outweigh any sort of legal punishment that one may receive. Anyone thinking that they can indulge in behavior that would to such a charge in the privacy of his or her own home or with the anonymity available on the Internet may soon learn just how seriously law enforcement considers these matters. If arrested and convicted of such a crime, one faces a potential lifetime of association with those acts with which he or she is charged.
A recent Bay Area example shows how savvy law enforcement has become at cracking down on sex crimes. The FBI recently raided an upscale San Bruno apartment complex where it had been discovered that a local pimp had been operating. This particular suspect had gone online with his services, like many other pimps running prostitution rings in the area. Though it’s not reported how investigators were initially tipped off to the activity taking place there, the raid was initiated by law enforcement officials posing as clients booking dates on different websites that led them this particular apartment building for the encounters. As result of the raid, the pimp and two female associates were arrested.
The Internet is no longer a place where people can ply the world’s oldest profession away from prying eyes. Allegations of Internet solicitation can carry heavy legal penalties if one is convicted. Anyone facing such penalties may want to hire an experienced defense attorney who knows what he or she may be facing to help ensure a reasonable and favorable outcome.
