Retaliation may have been motive behind prison rape allegations

A 29-year-old man has spent the past 12 years trying to convince others that accusations against him were fabricated. The young man was at that time being held in a juvenile detention facility. When he was 17-years-old he was accused of raping another inmate in the prison shower. The young man has all along suggested that the accusations were made in retaliation for some other perceived incident.

California man charged with tax fraud sentenced to time served

A 34-year-old man from California pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy, one count of mail fraud and two counts of wire fraud.  He has already been in jail since August 2008 after being charged on 74 counts.  Prosecutors dismissed 70 of those counts under a plea agreement that he made.

DA decides not to prosecute doctor for supposed insurance fraud

Charges against a California doctor were dismissed who had been accused of perjury, making a false claim and preparing a false claim.  The doctor's attorney stated that there was no evidence to support his client being criminally prosecuted.

State senator pleads not guilty to bribery and corruption charges

Much has been written about the arrest that was made of California Senator Leland Yee for alleged bribery and gun charges. The arrest took place on March 26 and came about following an FBI sting that was aimed at supposed organized crime and political corruption taking place in San Francisco's Chinatown.

Protester arrested at air force base not granted jury trial

A federal judge has denied an individual arrested for taking part in a protest the right to a jury trial.  The protest took place at Beale Air Force Base in California and concerned the use of drones.  Per a U.S. Supreme Court ruling, the federal judge ruled that there was no right to a jury trial if the penalty did not exceed six months imprisonment.  The judge apparently added that he would not grant a jury trial even if circumstances proved it would have been permissible.
