State senator pleads not guilty to bribery and corruption charges

Much has been written about the arrest that was made of California Senator Leland Yee for alleged bribery and gun charges. The arrest took place on March 26 and came about following an FBI sting that was aimed at supposed organized crime and political corruption taking place in San Francisco's Chinatown.

Senator Yee has been charged with six counts of participating in a scheme to defraud citizens of honest services and another count of conspiring to defraud citizens of honest services. Though he has been suspended from his political position, Senator Yee has pled not guilty to these charges and is currently free on $500,000 bond. Yee and his spouse signed over their home as collateral as concerns this bond.

It's difficult from reading news accounts to understand everything that went on in this matter.  The indictments concerning this matter have led to 20 different arrests.

Attorneys for other clients in this matter have claimed the FBI practices of luring individuals into this sting were conducted unfairly.  They claim the government "financed the crime" and were responsible for creating any criminal activity.

Because of the typical amount of resources that go into investigation of federal crimes, defending such matters can be particularly complex for criminal defense attorneys. It's for this reason that it is best to retain attorneys with a wide variety of experience concerning federal crime defense.

Investigation into these matters can go weeks or even months even before arrests are ever made.  And when it comes to conspiracy charges or multiple arrests, certain individuals arrested will attempt to shorten their sentences by testifying against others.
